WELCOME TO MUSIC BY TRESEY
Schontè Hamilton better known as Tresey is a singer, songwriter, actress, and content creator from Chicago, IL. Like many that have come before her, Tresey’s roots stem from the church. She began singing at an early age at her father’s church in Chicago. She developed a passion for singing, writing, and arranging. Her love for performing captured the attention of a theater director who encouraged her to take her creativity to the next level.
At just 14 years old, Tresey performed at a Chicago Music Conference capturing the attention of BeBe Winans and Sounds of Blackness Gary Hines. Under Hines guidance, Tresey began writing songs and self-released her first single called Break Through. She released her first full project in 2006.
She relocated to Los Angeles and studied theater while being mentored by the legendary Andrae and Sandra Crouch. She also performed with Crouch’s gospel choir and praise team singing and leading songs throughout Southern California. She contributed background vocals for Gospel and R&B artists while completing her undergraduate degree in Journalism from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois and she recently completed her master’s degree in Digital Journalism from St. Bonaventure University, New York.
She has performed in more than fifteen stage plays and musicals such as Sister Act. She has also toured internationally, releasing several projects both in Gospel and R&B/Soul music. Her award-winning stage play Queen Me, debuted to the Broadway community as a semi-finalist in the New York Theater Festival receiving rave reviews. Her short film, The House with the Bright Light, screened at the Twin Cities Black Film Festival and Grand Junction Film Festival receiving praise from the film community.
In 2019, Tresey released a single, entitled Too Smart for Love, as a soundtrack to a television show. This song became an online favorite on Soundcloud and Reverbnation and has resulted in many domestic and international music opportunities.
In 2020, Tresey received a diagnosis that changed her life. She spent two years battling a lung disease that halted her career but her persistence and determination helped her beat the odds. Today she spends her time sharing her beautiful gift of song, along with writing, acting and directing theater, tv and film projects.
Tresey’s signature sound is a fusion of Jazz, Gospel and R&B. “My goal is to create music that transcends time and space, “says Tresey. “I want to make beautiful music that reaches the soul and touches the heart.”
